Nina Newman is a ceramic artist based in Brighton. She makes unique pieces of pottery inspired by nature and runs pottery classes for children and adults. If your children are keen to make stuff with clay, Nina’s holiday sessions are a must. The sessions take place in Skylark Studio in Hove and are 2 hours long. Nina teaches in small groups of no more than 6, so that she can guide children with their creations.

Nina makes different items and teaches different methods. No two sessions will be the same. Children might come home with tiles or pots decorated in different styles.

Sessions are running during October half term on Monday 25th October, Tuesday 26th October and Wednesday 27th October 2021. Children’s classes are suitable for over 7s and cost £20 (£18 for siblings).

poponin runs a brilliant holiday club. It’s super flexible too. Drop kids off for a flexible slot that runs for an hour or three, or book them into full or short days.

You can totally embrace your creative side at poponin. Draw on tables, stools, the wall, paint, sew, draw, cut or stick. There are lots of crafts to have a go at or you can let your imagination run wild. It’s a crafty kid’s dream.

My two have been to several sessions over many years and always have a fab time. We feel lucky to have poponin on our doorstep.

Unaccompanied sessions are for school aged children. Prices depend on your chosen session.

There are usually a host of excellent workshops during the holidays at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft. This half term is no exception. There’s everything from a family drop-in, to story time with an author and illustrator, and a paper paste book making workshop.

The Big Draw

Ditchling Museum are running a special event for October half term called The Big Draw: Make the Change. It’s a drop-in event but numbers will be limited and standard museum entry will be charged.

University of Brighton students are organising drawing activities designed to help children think about how we can better look after the environment and reduce our impact on the planet.

Paper Paste Book Making

The museum is also hosting a paper paste book making workshop on Tuesday 26th October from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm for 7-11 year olds.

Emma Carlow who designed the Giant Sandwich soft sculpture in the show is teaching the workshop. Emma will guide children through all stages of the process – from design to making a simple concertina book.

The workshop costs £25 and includes all materials. Children will need to take a packed lunch.

Story Time with John Vernon Lord

John will talk through the ideas behind his characters and read stories from some of his many children’s books.

This event is free, booking is essential and standard museum entry applies.
