Six at 6pm with… Christina, Co-Founder of Street Diner

It’s back! Six at 6pm, the authentic guide to the inde Sussex food scene from the people in the know. Move over Waitrose Good Food Guide 😉.

In today’s Six at 6pm, the unstoppable Christina, Co-founder of Brighton-based food market Street Diner, legendary Copywriter and Co-founder of Sussex Hive shares her Sussex faves with us. She’s a self-confessed foodie and channels her passion through Street Diner. The market boasts a smorgasbord of fresh cuisines from around the world: souvlaki, vegan, brownies, jerk chicken and burritos to name just a handful. Yeah, I know. Drool.

An even more amazing FYI? Christina’s responsible for bringing the Baby Bao hook up with The Pond to us. Something we can all be super grateful for because those bao buns and doughnut baos are the absolute business.

Pencils and pens at the ready… here’s your next local fix of delicious…

1. Sussex food that makes you go 😋

Well, I’d have to say Street Diner. All the traders cook authentic street food dishes and have a deep rooted passion for food. I can’t pick one, I love them all. But I do have a soft spot for Happy Go Souvlaki coz life is nothing without Halloumi Fries and theirs are banging.

2. Favourite place to go for coffee?

In Hassocks, I love Proper.  In Brighton, it’s Pelicano. Coffee made by people who know what it’s like to be a caffeine addict.

3. Favourite Sussex pub for a roast?

Hmm, tricky as I’ve had good, great and okay roasts from the same pub depending on the chef. But one particular favourite Sunday feast was from the Pelham Arms in Lewes. Amazing roast, loaded with trimmings, crispy potatoes and perfect gravy.

4. Favourite Sussex tipple?

Brighton Gin gets me every time. And Plateau in Brighton serves the greatest cocktails that mean business: less mixer, mostly hard liquor, always delicious and very grown up.

5. Favourite Sussex dish or ingredient?

The Vegetarian Tasting Plate from the Ginger Fox offers up a selection of small dishes that are fresh, seasonal, local and super creative. I’m only a part-time veggie, but everything I’ve tried has blown me away. It’s my constant on the menu over anything else. (See below)
Vegetarian Tasting Plate  £15.50
Leek and Potato Soup with Truffle Oil and Wild Puffed Rice, Tomato Tart with Olives, Confit Onions and Buffalo Mozzarella Sweetcorn, Cheddar and Jalapeno Croquettes with Chipotle Mayonnaise

6. Banoffee Pie or Sussex Pond Pudding?

I don’t even know what Sussex Pond Pudding is, so pie for me.
