Best Hot Chocolate in Sussex Guide

Something yum for everyone

Hot chocolate can warm up even the chilliest of days. And the more over-the-top and indulgent, the better. Now tell me, who doesn’t like hot chocolate? Here’s a round up of the best places to go for hot chocolate in Sussex.

The Perch, Lancing

This is probably one of the most instagrammed hot chocolates…

The Ultimate: Most Instagrammed Hot Chocolate in Sussex

The Perch’s Ultimate Hot Chocolate is quite simply divine. A mouthwatering hot chocolate loaded with cream, salted caramel, smashed honeycomb and a giant toasted marshmallow. It’s delicious. They’re launching a new range of winter flavours soon, can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with.

The Perch also happens to be my favourite ticks-all-the-boxes-places to hang out with the family: beach on one side, park on the other, cosy inside, ultra child & dog friendly, delicious food, funky interiors, buzzy atmos… tick tick tickedy tick.

It’s a fab place come rain or shine – especially with the amazing views out to sea. The Perch is a top destination during the colder months.

Cloud 9, Brighton

A trip to Cloud 9 can cheer up even the greyest of days. The interiors are super fun with bright striped walls and colourful, fun furniture.

They have a huge range of massive hot chocs served in kilner jar mugs with all the trimmings. Like this…

Super indulgent

Or if you fancy a plain, classic hot chocolate, they do a corker made with milk and melted chocolate. Like this…

Plain & simple

There’s colouring for little ones and plenty of cool things to check out: the massive birthday cakes in the window, the sprinkle bar, the open kitchen. And despite being ultra child-friendly there’s plenty for grown-ups too.

Cloud 9 are famous in Brighton for their homemade cupcakes, rainbow cakes and ice cream, they have lots of different flavours and plenty of vegan options too. Everything is made on site. It’s a feast for the eyes as much as the belly.

Tory’s, Haywards Heath

Tory’s is the cute cafe in Victoria Park, Haywards Heath. There are stacks of seats outside and there’s a really sweet cafe inside if it’s cold. This is the perfect place to bring a pre-schooler on a cold day. Wrap up warm, run around the park and stop off for hot chocs afterwards.

They have a to-die-for range of homemade cakes, brunches, lunches and snacks; all the local coffee and tea you could want; plus a decent, classic squirty cream and marshmallow topped hot chocolate (they come in small and large, they do kids’ hot chocs too).

I’m a sucker for a gourmet hot chocolate but sometimes a classic milky hot choc with squirty cream and mini marshmallows can really hit the spot.

As an aside, they sell a bunch of well chosen cute homewares, prints, cards, local bars of chocolates and children’s gifts which makes it a gem for gifts and spur of the moment treats.

Chococo, Horsham

We haven’t had a chance to visit yet. But a follower on Instagram shouted out Chococo in Horsham as there fave go to for hot chocolate. A glance over their website shows a vast menu of single origin hot chocs and smaller sized kids’ drinks.

The shop looks like a chocoholics heaven with divine sounding handmade truffles and chocolates with fillings made from fresh cream, booze, local ingredients as well as a decent vegan and no nut range too.

Chococo is a small chain of 4 chocolate shops originating in Swangage, Dorset. There’s a gorgeous story behind the brand, which you can read on their website. `

We can’t wait to head over to Horsham soon to give their hot chocs and truffles a whirl. This looks like our kinda shop.

Wickle, Lewes

Wickle is an all-round crowd pleasing family fave here. There’s a small but perfectly formed cafe inside a divine shop on Lewes High Street. This is a must visit for all parents and their young children. Despite being small, they are super buggy friendly with a buggy valet parking service, so you don’t’ have to worry about cluttering up the shop with your pram.

Hot chocolates are made with Wickle’s own organic chocolate buttons. They come in small and large sizes. There’s a choice of milk, dark or white chocolate, or a combination of all 3 if that’s what you fancy. You can have your hot chocolate made with your preferred milk or mylk. And if you wanna pimp it up even more, you can add cream, sprinkles and marshmallows.

Oh and before I go, one just for you…

Black Mocha, Brighton

The Hipster

It’s not strictly for grown-ups but Black Mocha is my go-to for a hot chocolate when I’m out solo in Brighton. They have a vast menu featuring various single origin chocolates and flavours. It’s hard to know where to start! I’m a sucker for the plain & simple milk chocolate hot choc. Which is delicious.

The half pint glass tankard is a stroke of genius.

There’s a heap of delicious baked goodies on the counter (including stacks of vegan & gluten free stuff) to have alongside your hot choc. The cafe’s a treat to sit in too. It’s minimalist: white & black, a smattering of house plants, lots of shelves. The Actual Dream.

And best of all there’s WiFi 🙌🏻
