Hello Jaki from Perfectly Preserved!
First of all, HUGE congratulations on winning Gold for two of your marmalades at the 2019 World’s Original Marmalade Awards. Not only did you win twice, but you were the only Sussex winner there too. Such an incredible accomplishment.
For readers who haven’t had the pleasure, you make delicious jams, chutneys, marmalades, sauces and spreads from your kitchen in Worthing using local ingredients. We adore your creations and your commitment to local produce.
Your preserves are undeniably delicious. We’ve had quite a few over the past few months, previously through Charlotte’s Cupboard and most recently from your stall at Florence Road Market in Brighton. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you in person and to talk all things local produce and preserves.
So without further ado, let’s hear your Sussex favourites.
1. Your favourite Sussex food or drink that makes you go 😋?
Where to start? I guess the best place to start is with great bread so it has to be Real Patisserie or Flint Owl bakery.
2. Favourite place to go for coffee in Sussex?
I don’t get out much as I’m usually tied to the cookery! However, I love The Pantry in Worthing. Kris, the baker, also makes amazing sourdough and pastries.
3. Favourite Sussex pub for a Sunday roast?
I don’t go out for Sunday lunch, unless you count my mother in law’s! But I’ve eaten at Petit Pois in Brighton and I’d love to try their roasts one day.
4. Favourite Sussex tipple?
I’m lucky enough to taste a lot of Sussex gins at the Brooksteed Alehouse in Worthing where I work, and I think my favourite is Tom Cat blueberry
5. Favourite Sussex dish or Sussex-inspired recipe?
6. Banoffee Pie or Sussex Pond Pudding?
Banoffee pie, especially when made with my salted caramel.
Thank you so much for chatting with us. What a perfectly perfect bunch of Sussex recommendations.
Your jars are stocked around Brighton and Sussex. You have a stall at Florence Road market in Brighton; other stockists include HISBE, Barney’s Deli and The Real Patisserie.
